Weekend in the Mountains

We drove up to Ann Kristin's and Thor Gunnar's cabin in the mountains on friday afternoon.  The cabin is tucked away in the mountains about 60 miles east of Trondheim.  We had been there twice before, but those visits had been during the summer.  I remembered that once we left the highway, we had to drive on a narrow unpaved road for several kilometers to get to the cabin.  Here's what the cabin looks like in summer:

Thor Gunnar had told us that the road to the cabin is closed in the winter, so he would have to pick us up with a snowmobile equipped with a trailer to traverse the 7 kilometers from the highway to the cabin.  Here's what the cabin looked like upon arrival friday evening:

Tove and I road on the trailer with our skis and luggage.  It was an exciting ride, up and down hills, sweeping turns this way and that, with snow flying up from the tractor tread of the snowmobile onto the trailer.  At times it felt as if we would tip over, but later, we found out that Thor Gunnar had only flipped the trailer once with a passenger on board (his son, Sander) and it was at slow speed and Sander was not hurt.

Here comes Thor Gunnar!
