Ålesund

Monday, after Ingvild and Arild's wedding, Ingvild had to return her bridal crown to "Husfliden" in Ålesund, so we joined them on a trip there.  Ålesund is a pretty little town known for its Art Nouveau architecture (Jugendstil).  The town burned down around the turn of the century when Jugendstil was very popular in Europe.  The whole town was rebuilt in the Jugendstil style.  It makes for a nice place to visit:

You can read about Jugendstil here.  A few years ago, Tove and I visited Riga, Latvia, which is well known for its Jugendstil buildings.  I think Ålesund has nicer buildings.  The buildings give Ålesund a "rich-town" feel.

After walking around a bit, we decided to eat dinner at a Mexican restaurant!  There was a sign on the door that informed us that Mexico has a Consulate in Ålesund.  Ålesund is famous for bacalao, so that is what Tove and I ate.  It was good.  Mari enjoyed "window-shopping":

The last time I was in Ålesund I bought a sweater for $11.00.  It was July 1974.  I still have the sweater.
